Making a Difference

Donations to the North-West Ceramics Foundation directly support our numerous charitable activities promoting the ceramic arts in British Columbia. All donations are eligible for a charitable tax receipt, whether for the value of donated art work or cash gift. To make a donation, please see here.

The impact of your support is reflected in the numerous thank you letters we get, which attest to the importance of this assistance.  Here are a few:

My future goals are to open a ceramic studio for children, youth and elders which would be used for teaching and healing. During my ceramic learning I found the community to be very accepting and warm. I’d like to provide that specifically to Aboriginal children and youth. I have a strong interest in working with children; ceramics offers a space to make mistakes and be hands-on as well as developing creative skills. My family is from the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc Nation, and I’d like to be seen as a strong Aboriginal woman in the arts catering to a niche I don’t see currently offered.
Receiving support such as this affirms that I’m going the right direction with this new educational path. It makes me excited and proud to continue on an education path beyond the four years of a Bachelor’s Degree. I know with support I can achieve more of my goals these coming years. (Kimberly Ronning, ECUAD Endowment Fund NWCF Scholarship, 2023)

During my time at Medalta, I delved deep into techniques and processes that were
beyond the scope of traditional classroom learning. I got hands-on experience with
Atmospheric Firing, took the initiative to do Soda Firing independently, and
collaborated with fellow students on Salt Firing. The camaraderie and shared
knowledge among the residents were priceless. Additionally, I had the privilege of
learning about and actively participating in Wood Firing sessions conducted by other
residency artists. (Claudia Zilin Shen, Kwantlen University,  Medalta Scholarship, 2023)

I am leaving this experience with a renewed passion and purpose for my artistic
practice. The life skills I’ve gained and developed such as time management,
networking, problem solving and versatility will certainly shape my future work. None
of this would have been possible without the kind support of you all.  (Eloisa Mae Uy, Kwantlen University,  Shadbolt Residency, 2023)

I have only been working in ceramics for the last 5 years, and this residency experience pushed and motivated me to make some of the most functional work I have ever made.  I am so appreciative of your continued support. (Kacey Hughes, Kwantlen University, Shadbolt Residency, Sept 2022 )

This scholarship has provided me with the financial support that I needed to pursue my artistic practice at Medalta without worries, including purchasing tools, materials and living expenses.

During my trip at Medalta, I was able to experience life as a practicing artist for the first time. This included all the benefits, but also all the challenges. I was tasked with being self-driven, testing glazes, firing ceramics by myself, and managing my life as an independent artist. (Zoe Leung, Kwantlen University, Medalta Post-Secondary Scholarship, 2021)

I would like to thank you again for your support and contribution.  I am more motivated to continue my education seriously and follow my dreams and I hope to give back to the university someday and help a student reach their educational goals. (Azadeh Mehryar, ECUAD, Medalta Post-Secondary Scholarship, 2021)

I was honoured to receive this award, which helped to make my first ceramics residency possible. It was an invaluable experience to meet practicing ceramic artists, and other ceramic students from across the country. Through this residency, I was able to participate in my first atmospheric firings, as well as organize my first public exhibition alongside the other student residents. (Kacey Hughes, Kwantlen University, Medalta Post-Secondary Scholarship, 2018)

Thank you for allowing me to check out the new website. There has never been a BC Ceramic Marks / Makers Registry like this before, so it is great to have a website like this and to be able to do research on pottery and ceramic makers. And thank you so much for including my bio as well! (Atsuko Yoshimura)
