Lisa Henriques, Untitled, Porcelain, coiled, paddled and rubbed, 18” x 18.5” x 7.5”
Lisa Henriques began her ceramic practice in the pottery village of Vume, Ghana, West Africa, where she apprenticed with the ceramic master, Ama Blikisi. With no shared verbal or written language, clay was their common language, an experience that set the course for her ceramic work. She received her BFA from Emily Carr University and her MA in Ceramics from the Australian National University. She undertook independent apprenticeships and field studies in Africa, Mexico, China, India, Denmark and Australia, studying traditional hand-building in terracotta and porcelain, and wood-firing. Henriques has exhibited her work in North America, Europe and Asia. For more, please see her website.
